2024 IBPOC WRITERS IN RESIDENCE ANNOUNCED!

We would like to thank all of the great artists who applied to the program - you made our decision process very difficult.

We would like to welcome to the program:

  • Althea Cunningham

  • Sara Campos-Silvius

  • Shyanne Duquette

Over the course of the year they will be working on a new play, commissioned by APN through the generosity of the Edmonton Arts Council and the City of Edmonton, and helping us to reach out to underrepresented communities in northern Alberta.

IBPOC Writers In Residence Program

With the support of the Edmonton Arts Council, Alberta Playwrights’ Network is offering our first IBPOC Writer’s In Residence Program for theatre creators in the Edmonton area.

Submissions are now closed

The Program

Selected playwrights/theatre creators will be engaged in a yearlong creative process where they will be paid to create. During your year with us, you will be provided the opportunity and resources to create a new work for the stage. Selected writers will be given a $6000.00 commissioning fee, dramaturgical resources, and mentorship. At the end of the process, the selected candidates will have an opportunity to have their new works workshopped by professional actors, culminating in a staged reading presentation to the public.

As part of the process, creators will be asked to assist our organization with meeting some of our outreach goals. This will include reaching out to under-represented communities, speaking on behalf of APN, and meeting with artists and theatre creators. APN and the selected candidates will create a work plan for these community interactions.

Submission Guidelines
